Boulders
Dotting the BLM open range one can see ridges piled high with large boulders. These boulder fields are composed of mail volcanic deposits of welded tufts that have weathered into unusual rock formations. This was taken near Big Rocks Wilderness in Southern Nevada.
Sunset on the Range
Headed home on Highway 93 North as the sun begins to set in the western sky. The warm colors of sunset begin to cast their color on the 12 million acres of BLM Ely District of southeastern Nevada. Photography is always at its best when the sun is low in the sky.
Lighting Up the Sage
At first glance, the park may seem devoid of life, but no fewer than 200 species of plant have managed to gain a foothold in this rocky, forbidding landscape. The afternoon sun shines brightly on the sage at Craters of the Moon National Monument.
Afternoon Light
Craters of the Moon is a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. We explore this "weird and scenic landscape" often because it is only a couple of hours from home. I enjoy the early evening light as it shines on the sagebrush.
Arms Up Standing Tall
Driving south toward Phoenix one can see thousands of Saguaro Cactuses along the highway while passing through the Prescott National Forest. Their slender armed forms stand firm on the rocky slopes with their heads high in the dark blue sky.
Falling Water
One of the wonders of the Snake River Canyon are the many irrigation water returns as they spill over the canyon rim on their way back to the Snake River. The water sprays over the rim creating these wonderful waterfalls.

Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is just a few miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. A great place to escape for a drive or walk.
Desert View
On an early morning road trip from Las Vegas, Nevada to Valley of Fire State Park I found this still desert view.
Valley of Fire
Color, texture, and the angle of the sun make this picture taken at Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada. I love the red reckoned the shadows cast by the bush.
Cinder Garen
In spring, occasional rain and snowmelt provide moisture for wildflowers.

Grand Sky over the Range
Home on the range - I can smell the sage, and almost see the deer and antelope play.

My Western Home
My Western Home - Home on the Range forever in azures so bright.
Range
Where the air is so pure, the zephyrs so free, The breezes so balmy and light, That I would not exchange my home on the range For all of the cities so bright.

Storm Forming
I love traveling through range land during a rain storm. You can sell the rich aroma of the sage and the freshness of the rain.
Lava Tree & Buckwheat
While wondering the lava flows I came across this small clump of dwarf buckwheat flowers growing out of a fallen lava tree.
